Bars and places to eat in Barcelona, well holy crap , where do you start? Eating, talking, drinking, watching the world go by are the city’s favourite pastime and the choice is huge. We are going to keep adding to this but here’s a small list of some of our favourite places.
Elephanta - Gracia
Gin, yeah, I love it, and tea, check and double check and this cool little bar in Gracia has a huge range of gin and infused teas. It’s bohemian and relaxed, just like Gracia. Highly recommended (and yes, you can get beer of course).
Antic Teatre - El Born
The best shaded beer garden in the gothic quarter. This place is in an alleyway just by the Palau de la Música but most people walk right by. Don’t be most people! This is a great place to chill, take a vermut or a beer with some snacks and rest those aching feet.
La Alcoba Azul - Gotic
This hidden little gem in the gothic quarter is one of our favourite, atmospheric bars and serves great wine and food. We like to take a seat at the bar, grab a tapa, listen to the great jazz and watch the night unfold. I love it so much it features heavily in my next novel, any excuse for more research!
Zim - Gotic
Another blink and you’ll miss it hole in the wall in the Barrí Gotic but if you love cheese and wine this is YOUR place. Twinned with Katherine’s cheese shop next door, you can barely swing a cat, so you will end up chatting with Francesc the friendly barman or your fellow patrons. And the cheese, and the wine, did we mention just how good they are? They are great. We might see you in there.
lluritu - Gracia
Lluritu does fish. More specifically, every conceivable type of fish and shellfish, lots of it cooked on the charcoal grill as you are served crips white wine, cava or beer by the white uniformed staff. You eat at the bar or a few tables at the back. You may be standing, it doesn’t matter. This the best place for fish tapas in Barcelona we reckon and the locals who cram into this joint seem to agree.
